Forty Days of Love

Scripture:  1 Corinthians 13: 3  If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship        that I may boast, but not have love, I gain nothing.

A few years ago, Lima United Methodist Church members were invited to participate in a special emphasis during Lent, called "Forty Days of Love."  I took the instructions to heart and can testify to the positive impact they had on me.

This year we're revitalizing the concept of love in action during Lent. We're encouraging Lima UMC attendees to let people close to them know how much they are appreciated and valued.  Each week has a suggested way to connect to family and friends.

First week of Lent             February 18        Week of emails/cards

Second week of Lent         February 25        Week of phone calls

Third week of Lent            March 4              Week of love gifts

Fourth week of Lent          March 11            Week of prayer

Fifth week of Lent             March 18                 Week of visits

Sixth week of Lent            March 25                 Holy Week—invite a friend to join you at church

Then, during Holy Week, we'd like everyone to consider inviting a friend or family member to join us at one of Lima's Holy Week services (Maundy Thursday, Good Friday or Easter Sunday).  Let's intentionally open our hearts to share with others our Christ-inspired love.

Prayer: God of Grace, help us to open ourselves to the many ways we can show our love for others. Help us understand that preparation for the day we celebrate Christ's resurrection can have meaning only if we express love towards those around us.  Amen
